2014 2014 Our first show of 2014 saw the welcome return of Nigel Ogden, the final host of BBC Radio 2’s long running “The Organist Entertains” programme. This is Nigel rehearsing before the show. Nigel very kindly drove all the way from his home in Lytham St Annes especially for us, then returned immediately afterwards in weather that was not ideal for such a long round trip. Anyhow, Nigel gave us a super show to launch our 2014 program, and here he can be seen addressing our audience with the console lit by our recently serviced lights. Here’s Nigel in full flight with a close up of his playing skills on the big screen. March bought the talented Richard Hills back to the Woking Wurlitzer. Richard gave us a truly virtuoso show and the over 100 strong audience went home very happy. In April we welcomed new ATOS trustee Michael Wooldridge to the Woking Wurlitzer. As usual, it was easy to see why Michael won the YTOY competition way back in 1980 as he entertained us with a wonderfully varied show. To vary the style of the photo’s we post on the site, this unusual shot was taken from the video and sound mixing area and shows our May organist Cameron Lloyd seated at the Mighty Woking Wurlitzer whilst being introduced by Len Rawle. Cameron’s infectious style and personality had our audience singing and clapping along as they enjoyed a real taste of the old Reginald Dixon Tower Blackpool shows. June brought the sunshine and the well regarded Simon Gledhill to visit the Woking Wurlitzer. Our audience enjoyed a fine evening as Simon gave us a varied and very enjoyable show on this supurb instrument. Chris Powell provided a lively show in July which proved to be a real audience pleaser. After our summer break, David Ivory brought music back to the Woking Wurlitzer in September. For the second half of his performance, David donned his “Pearly King of the Organ” outfit and presented music on a London theme. Our October concert bought the well loved John Mann back to Woking. John has been in “the business” for many decades, and uses his vast experience to present a not to be missed varied and entertaining show. John Mann also introduced Sarah Bryant in order that he could duet with her on our Yamaha piano. November bought Keith Beckingham to entertain us on the Woking Wurlitzer. Keith worked for Hammond Organs for many years, and so it was only right that he used our instrument as part of his excellent concert. The Len Rawle Christmas Show bought back some of our established friends, like the Chobham St Lawrence Bell Ringers. This time “the bells” were accompanied by Hilary Cronin. Paul Clifton sang and played his guitar on some Christmas favourites. Compare Richard Cole always demonstrates some unusual musical instruments, and this year it was the turn of the humble hand saw. Len always has a go, and this time managed to get a note, just the one, from the “instrument”! Charley and Sue Brighton played some lovely seasonal tunes on their brass instruments, and are seen here at the end of the show with Len.
